MIND THE GAP
by Shannon Michael Terry

Spaces between
Understanding

Hands
Coming together
Not touching

Void

Legs
Feet

Walking over

The gap

A four-inch
Space
Between
The train
And
the platform

Cultures meeting
Not touching

Stopping short

The differences

Fear of differences

I’m breathing
Deep
Easy breaths
my spine
pressed
against
metal pole
directly in the middle

CAVE DRAGON

This is my meeting

Reaching
Breathing into
differences

The train turns thru the tunnel

Red handles
Dangle
Squeaking
As I do
a pendulum dance

In the middle

Open door
Pours
In the see

I stand perpendicular
Nobody stands perpendicular
It takes up
too much
Space

Wind tunnel
Cools
the dampness

High heels
Painted toes
Resting
in air

Hissing dragon
Opening
Closing
Hissing
Opening
Closing

Please mind the gap
Please mind the gap
Please mind the gap

I stand horizontal
In central

Maximizing space

The train turns
Thru the tunnel

The gap

A four-inch
Void
Between
The train and the platform

Darkness

The unknown
between
races

Ideas
Minds

Seeing reflections
Not in the windows
In the
Faces

The dragon
Stops

I keep breathing

Standing
in the
middle
